2015 in Review

Today’s Think Kit task is this:

Give us the 30,000 foot view. Or, hone in on a few highlights. Let’s bring last year to life before moving on to what’s ahead.

Looking back over my 2015, it was a year that had some highlights and lowlights that I would like to move past.  I had to think pretty hard about anything major that I wanted to share with the world, and right now, it doesn’t feel right doing that.

Therefore, I’ll give some of the highlights for me that included seeing plenty of live music and playing live music.

Foo Fighters came to Indy around August and 2015 was the year of Foo Fighters on my Spotify since I listened to them plenty.

They were my most played artist, and seeing them live was great.

They really bring that energy playing live that all bands need to do.

My own band, Good Guy Bad Guy, played around the city a few times as well.  Melody Inn is our choice venue as we pull a great crowd there, and it’s always a good environment.

But we were also part of Punk Fest at Fifth Quarter Lounge, a battle royal of bands at Birdy’s, and another date at Birdy’s that was probably one of the best shows we’ve played with our new bass player.

Other musical highlights included seeing Reel Big Fish along with Less Than Jake. Talk about bands that were such a big part of my learning to step outside my musical comfort zone. Less Than Jake are still big to me when I hear their songs and how they can hit that part of my life that I can’t hit.

  • Driving to Chicago to see Motion City Soundtrack along with The Wonder Years.
  • Free tickets to see Flogging Molly.

Music is definitely the big part of my life, and I’m glad I got to experience so much different music in 2015.

For me personally, the highlight would be the work I did at my school for 2014-2015. I was called upon to do plenty beyond my usual day to day activity. It all came together when I was named the employee of the year for my school and got recognized along with all the others that had earned this distinction at the year end celebration for our school district.

It was such an honor to be nominated in that regard as I know the work I’ve done, and now need to step up my game for this school year as I’ve felt like I’ve slipped a bit from that. Maybe that is the peak of my career, and it would be time to look for other options, but I enjoy the work I do, and don’t want to leave that behind.

Quality is not an act, it is a habit.
